A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
by Dan Haley Jr.
A Relationship with God–How Do You Begin?
A Relationship with God begins by being introduced to Him. We must begin by realizing individuals simply do not understand God and so cannot connect with Him. There is a righteousness necessary to live in God’s presence. The apostle Paul writes in Romans 3:14:
“None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God.”
Leon Tucker, in his Studies in Romans, writes concerning this problem.
“Man had no way to God, so God made a way to man—when man could not come to God, then God came to man. When man could not go into God’s Holy Place (tabernacle), then God came out to man’s sinful state. In creation, man was made in the image of God. In redemption, God is made in the likeness of man. This is the wondrous depth of the incarnation.”
John 1:14: “And the word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Philippians 2:7: “…but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.”
Enter into a Relationship with God Through Christ
You can connect with God and His righteousness. For this reason Jesus came, so that you can enter into a relationship with God and live in His Presence.
How does Jesus connect you with God’s righteousness? Consequently He offered himself as God’s gift to men – to you. Notice Romans 3:21-24:
“But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”
Notice the wonders found in these verses:
:21 … “The righteousness of God has been manifested”
:22 … “Through the faith of Jesus Christ for all who believe”
:23 … “For all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory”
:24 … “But are justified by His grace as a gift”
A Relationship with God Begins with Belief
Therefore you must believe what He has given to you to have a relationship with God. Faith is simply believing what God has said. This gift is found in Ephesians 2:4-8:
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” biblia.com/bible/esv/ephesians/2/4-8
For by grace you can be saved through faith. God loves you. Therefore, he makes you alive through the resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. because of God’s love for you. Remember that, “Faith is simply believing what God has said.”
You enter a relationship with God when you believe what He has said. God is your Creator, your Savior and, in time, your Friend.
You now have the righteousness of God and therefore have total access to Him.
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
